It’s a Christmas-themed Caturday, with this 1910 postcard from our Mid-Manhattan Picture Collection. The card depicts a wide-eyed, well-dressed kitty wishing the card’s recipient a merry Christmas. Oddly, the back of the card reveals that the card was sent from an “Aunt Pelara” in August of 1910. Yes, August. Well, whatever! It’s still cute, and is purrrrfect for the last Caturday before Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, just a reminder, NYPL is closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25, for the holiday. But our eBooks will still be available. Happy Caturday!
Purrfect!

Genius. “I’ll be frank like Bruni/Ruthless like Reichl/Wiley like Dufresne/and when I take the mike/I’ll rhyme about radicchio/criticize Colicchio”

Happy birthday, Neil Gaiman - brilliant writer, library supporter, and, in honor of Caturday, cat lover. Gaiman has Tweeted photos and written many blog entries about his cats, including the late, great Zoe, the cute kitty pictured here with Neil. Gaiman is also a major supporter of libraries - when we asked him to give us a quote for library card sign-up month (check out the full campaign, which includes inspirational library quotes from Anne Rice, Bill Cosby, Mario Batali, Woody Allen and more), he shared this gem (a known Gaiman quote): “Google can bring you back 100,000 answers, a librarian can bring you back the right one.” Rock on, Neil, and happy Caturday to all of you. Looking for something to do today? How about checking out one of Gaiman’s books from NYPL?
